HF Information, Function

HF-ballasts are environment

friendly. The greatest contribution     towards the environment is made

during the HF ballast's lifecycle when it saves energy.

Add to this the fact that the HF ballast extends the light source’s  mortality  rate by up to 50% and its environmental  benefits speaks for themselves.

Advantages of HF ballasts:

§     Fast flash-free start.

§     Flicker-free lighting.

§     Very low magnetic field

§     Always powers the light source with optimal values and gives the correct luminous flux irrespective of fluctuations in the mains supply.

§     Extends the light source’s mortality rate by up to 50%

§     Low share of harmonics (THD)

§     Disengages failed fluorescent lamps  (no irritating flickering)

§     Saves at least 20% energy, Savings in the region of 60% are possible.

§     Controllable ballasts allow dimming.

§     Give a low share of unwanted heat.

§     No stroboscopic effects.

Several authorities in Europe and USA prescribe that HF ballasts shall be used so that factors such as the environment and man’s well being are benefited.

Investigations show that people working in an environment with HF lighting, feel better, are less tired and perform better.  Not every person can perceive flicker from conventionally powered fluorescent lamps with their eyes, however, their subconscious does.

The technology gives, through more effective utilization of the energy less heat development due to a lower installed output and less outputlosses.  As a consequence of this, cooling and ventilation installations can be designed smaller and thereby less expensive to acquire and operate.

Even maintenance costs in the form of light sources and relamping fall due to a generally longer mortality rate.

HF ballasts also become the obvious choice when magnetic fields enter the debate, as these have no large coils and cores that can generate these fields.

Electronic ballasts for fluorescent lamps give a tool that allows to positively influence ecological balance and working environment.  During the nineties we have seen many new interesting lightsources appear on the market, which with their unique design and  characteristics have opened up a world of possibilities for the lighting industry.  This includes a wealth of compact fluorescent lamps, but in particular the new T5 fluorescent lamp.  New design possibilities are created due to its diameter of 16mm as well as its energy efficiency.

It has been known for a long time that if fluorescent lamps are powered by high frequency current instead of the mains supply, efficiency increases by approx. 10%.  Electronics must be used to increase the frequency to over 40.000Hz.  It was in the middle of the Eighties that component prices and quality developed to such a degree that allow the technology to be used in commercial applications.  Today the technology is better and more reliable than ever.
