Saudi Lighting Laboratory is the
first of its kind in the whole Middle East and the only one In the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia recognized by Saudi Arabian Standards Organization (SASO).
Laboratory Responsibilities:
To conduct all performance and safety requirements testing as per the
International Standards set by the Technical Committee # 34 of International
Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and all its Subcommittees SC 34A/B/C/D which
are producing all standards of lamps, luminaries and lamp auxiliaries, Also
according to the local standards of SASO which are IEC adapted.
List of some of the tests conducted:
1- Photometric testing: using a Ghoniophotometer from a highly
specialized German Company to produce luminous intensity curves in polar and
cartesian coordinates for all types of luminaries and utilization factor curves
for road luminaries, glare diagrams and utilization factor tables of indoor
luminaries. Also measurements of luminous flux of lamps, Furthermore, Luminous
intensity tables can be produced with different formats (Illumdat & IES)
2- Electrical Measurements: Measurements of starting & operation
electrical data for the supply and lamp (Voltage, Current, Power, Power Factor
and voltage and current harmonics) Electrical strength by measuring leakage
currents after applying high voltage test (1.5 kv ac).
Also measurements of insulation resistance after applying a voltage 500 v dc.
3- Mechanical strength: By applying impact forces to luminaries as per
IEC60598 general and particular requirements.
4- Thermal & thermal endurance testing: To check the thermal performance
and endurance of luminaries at certain ambient temperature.
5- The degree protection: Against dust & solid objects and against
splashing & jetting of water "IP" degree according to IEC60598.
